SumUp Expands Form3 Partnership to Bring Real-Time SEPA Payments to Millions of European SMEs

SumUp, the global financial technology company, significantly expanded  its partnership with Form3, a secure cloud-native account-to-account global payments platform. The expanded agreement sees SumUp extending its use of Form3’s platform to support European payment schemes.

SumUp currently supports more than four million merchants across 37 countries. Under the new phase of the partnership, the fintech has adopted Form3’s platform for European payments, including SEPA Instant, SEPA Credit Transfer, and SEPA Direct Debit.

This European rollout builds on SumUp’s existing relationship with Form3 for UK payments, where the platform already connects the fintech to Faster Payments and Bacs.

Simplifying cross-border infrastructure

The shift towards instant payments is rapidly becoming the norm in Europe, driven both by customer demands and the introduction of the EU Instant Payment Regulations.

In line with its mission to ensure all businesses can thrive, SumUp’s expanded partnership aims to consolidate multiple payment capabilities through a single provider. This consolidation simplifies SumUp’s payments infrastructure, reduces operational complexity, and enables merchants to unlock growth across different markets.

Form3’s platform is specifically designed to support continuous, high-volume payment processing and meet the evolving requirements of regulated payment environments. Founded to disrupt the traditional payment infrastructure model, Form3 provides an always-on, cloud-native, Payments-as-a-Service solution to major industry players including Mollie, JP Morgan, Santander, Barclays, and Klarna.

By utilising this single platform, SumUp can continue to add new payment rails and expand into additional markets while maintaining strict compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

He added: “Form3’s platform enables partners like SumUp to expand their payments capabilities without having to make significant changes to their underlying infrastructure or endure complex onboarding processes. This allows them to stay focused on their customers.”

Antoniya Ditsova, product lead – global bank at SumUp, highlighted the direct benefits for the firm’s user base: “Our mission is to make business simple for our 4 million merchants. Expanding our partnership with Form3 helps streamline our payments infrastructure and strengthen our access to European payment schemes. This integration allows us to offer SEPA Instant capabilities, ensuring that our customers can move money as fast as they do business. It’s a vital component of our growth as we continue to build the world’s most complete financial toolkit for small businesses.”
